I hope this site helps you to find what you are looking for. Happy reading!
Happy New Year! After an extensive book tour for Book of Lives and a very busy holiday season, I’m clearing the decks in preparation for 2026. Lots on the plate! Not all of it writing-related. For instance, the ballet of Wayne McGregor’s MaddAddam is coming back to Toronto in June 2026 — I’ll be there! As Wayne has said, people cry. Not so usual at the ballet, but then, it’s a not-so-usual ballet.
And the launch of Season One of the television series of The Testaments — the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale — is coming up in April — I don’t know the exact date yet. I have a cameo in it, though I can’t say as what, except that it’s scowly…. We had fun filming the scene in the dungeon at the bottom of Old City Hall. Well, not a dungeon really — holding cells for those accused of minor offences such as being drunk. Real graffiti on the walls though.
In other exciting news, the Pelee Island Bird Observatory’s new Bird Centre on Pelee Island, a conversion of a large 1928 liquor store, is now almost complete! Our bird banders will now have a residence without black mould and snakes in the shower; there are event spaces, there will be a public-facing educational space. The contractors — Greenlight — have done a great job! We are now at the furnishing and finishing stage, and hope to announce a preview walk-through for islanders very soon, with a full opening to follow a bit later. Thanks again to the many donors and the very, very hard work of the Board and staff!
November 4, 2025, is publication day for BOOK OF LIVES: A Memoir of Sorts. And I will soon be off and running, complete with all my medications and the Tour Wardrobe: Think Pink, Pack Black, but with pink accents. Book tour times and places can be found on this website under EVENTS.
Under BOOKS, we will try to post links to Interviews (and more, such as videos). Warning: some of these will have paywalls.
For media such as reviews, go to BOOK OF LIVES: BUY. We will try to keep up to date, though it will be difficult, as in Niagara O’Words.
Off we go!

I also have an Instagram, at therealmargaretatwood.
The Blind Assassin’s Virago (U.K.) beautiful 25th anniversary edition is now out! I wrote a new introduction for it. Yes, this novel was published 25 years ago, in the year 2000. The main speaker is old (although younger than I am now — I was a babyish 60 back in 2000). Her life has covered most of the 20th century — she was born in 2016, during the Great War.
What will the novelists of the future have to say about the period of uncertainty and turmoil we are living through right now? (You see, I have faith that there will be some novelists of the future).
This summer, I filmed a cameo for the upcoming first season of The Testaments, which we can expect sometime in the spring of 2026. Even I don’t know the date yet! I can’t tell you what part I am playing — secret! — but it was a pleasure to work with the excellent team, and to watch the marvellous Ann Dowd in action as Aunt Lydia, alongside the very talented young actresses playing the two young female leads. Can’t wait to see the finished episodes!
